Be Your Own Interior Designer

Be your own Interior Designer

1. Focal Point

  • Try to create a focal point, (not the T.V) this will usually be a fireplace if you have one. But if not you could use a console table with a display of framed photographs, a large statement mirror or piece of artwork

2. Maximise Light

  • Try to maximise light wherever possible such as by placing a mirror opposite a window, incorporating glass and chrome surfaces and having plenty of light sources
  • Use different kinds of lighting - you'll want ambient light for mood and direct light for reading.
  • Combining a mixture of floor lamps, table lamps and candles will create an inviting space

3. Accent Colour

  • Pinches of colour will keep a room feeling youthful and engaging
  • Stick to the 60-30-10 rule –60% of a dominant colour 30% of a secondary colour 10% of an accent colour
  • Incorporating a new accent colour can be a very budget friendly way of updating a room. Think about refreshing existing curtains with colourful trim, or stitch ribbon or buttons onto cushions. Buy a pot of tester paint and renew your wooden picture frames. You could even buy a small amount of designer fabric or wallpaper and frame it on the wall
